Free event to celebrate and connect Charnwood businesses and entrepreneurs

Charnwood businesses and entrepreneurs are being invited to attend a special free event later this year.

The event - Celebrating & Connecting Business inCharnwood – is being held on the morning of Wednesday, 5 March 2025, at Charnwood Campus in Loughborough, a science, innovation and technology park which is home to a number of successful businesses.

There will be guest speakers, business support and plenty of networking opportunities, with lunch also provided.

The event has been organised by inCharnwood, Charnwood Borough Council’s economic development and regeneration team.

It will celebrate the success of entrepreneurs and businesses who have received support through Loughborough University’s incubator programme, as well as the Council's UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) Loughborough Emerging Startup Accelerator and Scale Up programme.

It will also be a perfect chance to connect local businesses with each other.

Councillor Jennifer Tillotson, the Council’s lead member for economic development, regeneration and town centres, said: “Charnwood is home to a thriving business community and this event is a fantastic opportunity to bring together our local entrepreneurs and businesses to celebrate their achievements and explore new opportunities for growth.

“We’re proud to support initiatives like this, which showcase the innovation and ambition within our borough.

“Events like these not only highlight the success of our business community but also strengthen the connections that make Charnwood a great place to do business."

inCharnwood is a brand developed by the regeneration and economic development team at Charnwood Borough Council. The team works closely with other parts of the Council, businesses and with a wide range of partner organisations to help create a strong economy for the area.

It also recently launched Business Connect inCharnwood – a new partnership to help drive investment in the borough.

The initiative aims to bring together businesses and the Council to shape future policies, schemes and innovations to help companies thrive in the area.

British Business Bank’s Growth Guarantee Scheme provided with additional capacity to support businesses affected by global tariff changes

On April 13 2025, the Chancellor announced the Growth Guarantee Scheme will provide approximately £500m of additional lending capacity to help more smaller businesses across the UK. The extra funding is aimed at smaller businesses that may need support with cashflow issues due to changes in global tariff rates. Businesses can use the finance for any legitimate business purpose, including managing cashflow or working capital requirements due to disruption caused by changes to global tariffs. However, businesses must be able to afford to take out additional debt finance for these purposes.

Leicestershire SMEs: Share Your Views on US Tariffs

The UK Government is asking businesses across Leicester and Leicestershire, especially SMEs, to share their experiences of US tariffs on British exports. Local industries such as textiles, food and drink, plastics, and engineering could all be affected. Submit your views by 1st May 2025.
