The UK Government is asking businesses across Leicester and Leicestershire, especially SMEs, to share their experiences of US tariffs on British exports. Local industries such as textiles, food and drink, plastics, and engineering could all be affected.

The Department for Business and Trade wants to understand the direct impact on businesses like yours to help shape future trade negotiations and support UK exporters.

By taking part, you can help ensure Leicestershire’s voice is heard, influencing efforts to reduce trade barriers and open up more opportunities for local manufacturers, food producers, and makers.

British Business Bank’s Growth Guarantee Scheme provided with additional capacity to support businesses affected by global tariff changes

On April 13 2025, the Chancellor announced the Growth Guarantee Scheme will provide approximately £500m of additional lending capacity to help more smaller businesses across the UK. The extra funding is aimed at smaller businesses that may need support with cashflow issues due to changes in global tariff rates. Businesses can use the finance for any legitimate business purpose, including managing cashflow or working capital requirements due to disruption caused by changes to global tariffs. However, businesses must be able to afford to take out additional debt finance for these purposes.
